The successful candidate will be an invaluable member of our technical leadership team.

Portable Electric is seeking a skilled and experienced Electrical Engineer to join our growing engineering team. As part of the Portable Electric team, the Electrical Engineer will deliver complex, technical designs for products in a flexible, fast-paced environment, while providing support to our field service team for projects around the globe.  


  • Prepare the electrical engineering design basis and assist in conceptual design of battery and electrical systems.
  • Generate electrical design drawings and other documentation including electrical schematics, panel layouts, load lists, cable schedules, and other related documentations.
  • Troubleshoot and root cause analysis of product field failures of power electronics and converters including onsite investigations, physical inspection, testing of failed units, reviewing data logs and correlating with product specifications and reviewing manufacturing and installation processes for cause(s) of failure
  • Continuously improving engineering methodologies, workflow and procedures of our product development lifecycle.
  • Provide problem solving of electrical issues on new product development and work with field support to resolve.
  • Well versed with UL/CSA electrical equipment safety compliance standards and certification programs
  • Well versed on RCA and carry out periodical process review to identify the root cause of deficiencies and ensuring corrective action takes place to eliminate the root cause.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a strong focus on power systems and controls as your field of study.
  • 4+ years working as an Electrical Engineer in a hardware engineering and manufacturing setting.
  • Development of products with battery power systems (chargers, inverters, etc.) and solar panels is highly desired
  • Working knowledge of product safety standards and development required to achieve compliance
  • Working knowledge of EMC/EMI standards and test requirements
  • Proven experience in design, release, validation, troubleshooting and integration of power electronics for industrial power products
  • Proficient in electrical system design (i.e., Altium, PCAD) and simulation tools (i.e., PSIM, SPICE)
  • Experience with dynamic simulation of control and process systems using MATLAB and Simulink
  • Hands on skills for prototype fabrication & verification testing
  • Strong understanding of lithium battery technologies and energy storage systems 
  • Hands on experience in the following fields: power electronics, renewable energy systems, microgrid, battery or generator-backed power systems, EV charging, or energy storage systems
  • Experience with AC power 3-phase/split-phase systems 
  • Working experience with CAN, SPI, USB, I2C, RS485, RS232 communication protocols
  • Detailed understanding of engineering documentation and specification including design inputs, design validation, schematics, BOMs, etc.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members.
  • Able to manage several projects at once and prioritize one’s workload.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% (both domestic and international): 


    This position will be based at Portable Electric’s 18,000 sq ft facility and Global HQ in Vancouver, BC – home to a highly engaged and growing team.
