Portable Electric is a Vancouver-based clean tech equipment manufacturer, connecting teams to clean power all over the globe. PE designs, builds, rents and sells Voltstack® Power Stations – industrial grade, robust, clean energy alternatives to traditional gas and diesel generators that provide instant power whenever and wherever it’s needed. 


The Role:

We are looking for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer responsible for all areas related to manufacturing process improvement. The Senior Manufacturing Engineer work cooperatively with Engineering, Operations and Supply Chain to maximize standardized manufacturing efficiency and achieve operational goals. You will lead the ME team in providing technical expertise in the manufacturing process development and improvement of all products manufactured. You will also be  responsible for bringing engineering new product designs into realization. You are a systems thinker with a track record of managing changes, who solve problems by building relationships and collaborating. The key accountability for this position is to take a leading role in building a team to establish process controls and drive continuous improvements.


Principal Accountabilities


  • Be the SME in design and development of assembly documents (AD) and work instructions (WI) required to manufacture products.
  • Work cell and production line balancing, line layout design, and time and motion studies to improve efficiency.
  • Interface with Engineering for new product launch activities and control engineering change orders and updates of Bill of Materials.
  • Work with Engineering to assess and improve product manufacturability.
  • Develop standardized design criteria across product lines and propose DFX solutions and recommendations to improve efficiency, reduce cost and improve quality. 
  • Identify the most efficient and cost-effective way to assemble products and develop process flows, taking into consideration current processes and best practices.
  • Work closely with the Operations team to optimize plant layouts and plan capacity and infrastructure needs as part of implementing new production lines.
  • Estimate production times and identify when additional resources are required for processes – people and equipment.
  • Champion Lean Initiatives throughout the plant, identify potential areas for improvement. 
  • Continuously improve the workflow and identify process changes to improve overall yield and quality.
  • Well versed on root cause analysis (RCA) and carry out periodical process review to identify the root cause of deficiencies and develop required corrective measures.
  • Develop, monitor, and report KPIs and metrics such as capex for manufacturing, labor efficiency, utilization rate, cycle time, and measurement of performance to target lead time.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial or Mechatronics Engineering with Manufacturing Engineering as the field of study.
  • 7+ years working as a Manufacturing Engineer or CI Engineer in a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience in evaluation of fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials and working on cost effective processes with suppliers
  • Experience with statistics and data analysis.
  • DFM, PFMEA, Lean/ Six Sigma Fundamentals required (Six Sigma Black Belt preferred).
  • PLM / ERP experience is highly desired.
  • New Product Introduction experience is highly desired.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to influence team members.
  • Able to manage several projects at once and prioritize one’s workload.


Location: 

This is a role working out of our Vancouver, BC office; however, we will consider candidates from abroad who are willing to relocate to Vancouver at their own expense
